This semester, we covered diverse topics from punctuation and formatting to team building and getting a job. You learned how to produce letters, memos, and e-mail. What were your favorite topics? What did you learn that you are applying? How have your skills and thinking changed? In short, what are your take-aways from class?

I have taken with me from the class the knowledge of professionally typing a business letter with proper spacing as well as knowing that sometimes less attention to titles is better (resume). I have always bolded, underlined, and italicized heading to draw attention to them, but I have learned that less is better when it comes at drawing attention to items. I have also recently learned to add bullet points to items for faster review. I enjoyed learning how to write a business letter professionally as well as informal e-mails.
The most important things I have learned this semester are about emails and punctuation.
Emails and electronic letters are part of the public domain and as such should be treated with respect. I will never post anything electronically that I don’t want the whole world to read or see.
In the past, I have always guessed at where and what type of punctuation to use (except periods and question marks). Now if I have a doubt, I recite the comma rules in my head. If I am still unsure, I get out the textbook and look. I will never get rid of this book. I even convinced my 6th grade son to format one of his letters according to the book. When his teacher tried to get him tio change it, he said, “But my mom’s professional writing college textbook said it should be formatted this way.” Needless to say, he got an “A.”
To me its absolutely amazing that this semester is already over. I have enjoyed this classes discussions and assignments.
Some of the biggest impacts that this class has made on my professional writing has been from a very structural aspect. Punctuation was a nightmare to begin with for me, I completely relied on word to double check my mistakes. Now however I am much better off in making judgments on when to use commas and semi colons. Grammar was less of an issue for me thankfully. More so, my confidence in responding to business professionals I am currently in contact with. I truly appreciate the lessons regarding proper formatting in responses, and the proper responses in which to format.
Thank you to my team for a semester worth of discussions! Also, thank you to Professor Young for her never ending patience and positive constructive feedback.
All the best,
Jade
Hello class,
Through taking this class, we have covered a lot of topics which has helped us all become better writers. One of my favorite topics was producing letters and writing memos. Also, learning how to write emails has helped me tremendously with producing them for my job. What I am applying is how to properly greet in emails, use the proper spacing, and how to close in an email. All of these things are important in sending an email.
My skills and thinking has changed when producing something to write such as emails. Also, when writing, the phrase less is more is sure to stick with me for everthing I write. By getting to the point, readers will be able to stay focused without getting sidetracked. I have learned a lot of great things in this class and cannot wait to apply them to jobs and other classes I may take.
Hope everyone has a wonderful break,
Lisa Pozniak
Hello,
Throughout this semester I learned not only how to properly create e-mails, letters, and memos but I also learned how to communicate. Communication is the key to success in life, no matter where a person works. My favorite topic in the class was the section on diversity. Diversity is everywhere no matter where a person works or goes to school. It is important to be understanding of other people. It is also important to understand a person’s culture. I learned how to properly create all sorts of different letters that I will be able to use for the rest of my life. It is important to be able to know how to create letters in the business world. With me being a business major I will be able to apply each skill to my daily tasks. My thinking has changed on writing in general. It is complex but with time and practice it makes perfect. I found the class to be very educational and a requirement of life. I enjoyed the forum discussions. It was a good way to get everyone in the class to communicate.
Have a good week,
Sabena
Hello,
I have enjoyed everything that I have learned while taking this class. It has taught me many things that are valuable to me.
One of the most important things that I have learned would be the correct formatting of emails, memos, and letters. I also liked learning the correct punctuation of everything. Another thing that was important to me was learning the correct usage of similar words.
The most important thing to me was learning how to make my resume. I really liked making my resume because when I actually go to apply for a job I will already have it made up. I might have to make some little changes to it but for the most part I wouldn’t have to worry about completely have to make it up.
I am very thankful I took this class now because it has taught me many things I didn’t know.
Have a good day.
Brooke
Dear Class,
Although this course covered many topics, my favorite topics were writing business documents, using personal communication, as well as learning proper punctuation. Before taking this class, I never thought about the importance of business documents. I thought writing business documents would be difficult, but they are simple. It was very helpful to learn how to write business documents, because they could be used in writing follow up letters, thank you letters, complaints, corporate communications, and resignation notices. Although I will be writing far more email messages than business documents, I will be confident about writing both. I will also be applying proper formatting in all of my writing, including business documents.
Learning proper personal communication has benefitted more than my writing. I took some of the advice the book offered by listening to friends more, and keeping the topic upon their statements. I will be applying personal communication skills learned in this class in my personal writing.
Proper punctuation has helped build my confidence in writing. Before this class, I did not know the proper use of semicolons, quotations, and surprisingly; commas. There were many rules to remember, but I am confident that I learned enough to make a professional appearance.
My writing skills have changed in speed after gaining more freedom to write down my ideas, instead of trying to figure out punctuation and formatting while writing. However, the greatest part of taking this class was gaining the self-confidence necessary to communicate professionally.
All the best,
David Soltysik
Looking back over the semester trying to pinpoint one take away is difficult. This course was full of information and important lessons that I will carry on with me.
The grammar principles are one in which I can tell I have made great improvement. Knowing when and where to use commas, using proper forms of words like accept and except, and sentence length are a few examples of things I have learned in the past; but, thanks to this course was able to relearn. It is interesting to see how much information like this you “lose” having not been in a writing course in years.
Through out the semester I have seen improvement in my writing. It is neat being able to learn something in a course and then directly applying it to your professional life. I look forward to showing off what I have learned thanks to ENG W231! Thanks for a great semester!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
Becky
Hello,
I realize that writing is an important part of our daily lives. This class ha showed me how important good writing is. I use to struggle when it comes to writing, but that no longer happens because of what I have learned in this class.
What I have learned is the proper way to use commas and semi colons you will not go wrong if you remember that when in doubt leave them out. I also learned that less is more when it comes to writing. Remember when you write you should make sure your writing is simple, clear, and concise also remember to keep the subject close to the verb. The mind map was also helpful; because the mind map helps you get your ideas on paper before you actually start writing your paper. Learning how to properly write e-mails, memos, and letter were also helpful.
These are some of the things that I have learned, and I will continue to use on a daily basis whether it’s at work, school, or at home. This class has been very helpful, and I have learned a great deal. Thank You.
Have a good break, and hope you all had a great semester.
Jeannette
I realized how important communication is, which holds true for professional writing as well. Formatting and wording are essential for writing effectively, and there are different ways to handling these for letters, memos, e-mails, etc. Bulleting and numbering visually enhances these messages, which is handier than I originally thought. All these skills will highly benefit me for future uses since they will grab and keep the reader’s attention.
Being clear and concise is a tip I don’t want to forget. I’ve been using the active voice a lot more, although the passive voice is useful in some situations. I know which voice I should apply appropriately when getting my messages across.
I give my thanks for becoming better prepared when I’m out getting a job. This includes answer preparation for an interview. I feel more confident in presenting myself by being both honest and positive.
Hello Everyone,
This semester went by so fast. I have enjoyed every minute of it. This class has been a great refresher to my English skills. I have definitely enjoyed doing all the assignments and exercises. My editing skills have really improved. I was able to edit my son’s essay just the other day. That was exciting finding his mistakes, but I didn’t let him know it was a thrill to edit his paper. Learning how to format documents correctly was a skill that I needed and updating my resume. I hope my updated resume will help land me a more plentiful job with more pay.
I have enjoyed working in teams and reading my teammates responses. Thank you to all who gave such wonderful advice on my responses.
Happy Holidays!
Carrie
Hi Class,
This semester I learned a lot about how to produce business documents like memos, letters, and emails. I think this was really important for me to learn since I could have to do this in the future. The class also helped my editing skills tremendously. I learned how to use commas and semicolons correctly, which I never knew how to do before. I now can help my friends edit their papers and be confident in the fact that I am giving them the right advice.
One thing that I really liked about the class was the assignments. I have taken English classes before where you just write a paper or read a book and write a report. I liked the assignments for this class because they were different each week, and they actually helped me to apply what I was learning. I especially liked the last assignment we did about core values. It taught me something about myself and made me really think about how I should be spending my time.
I am happy with how much my writing skills have changed this semester. I feel like this class will really help me when I get a job one day. I feel like each lesson had something beneficial to take away with it.
All the best,
Amanda
I really treasure taking this class and the valuable lessons it has taught me. There were so many writing techniques that I didn’t know I needed an “updating” on.
First, let me say I will forever stick with “less is more”. I saw through our writing and my correction, how fundamentally overwhelming a letter can be for a client if its forever going on in content.
Second, I had a real awakening in the similar words department, where I had realized I had been using the incorrect versions of who’s and whose. That point really made me do a double check on my word usage and made me more aware of what I was writing.
And finally, focusing on the resume was a real plus for me. I assumed my resume was in tip top shape, but it still needed some fine tuning and the tips I received will make me a much more solid competitor in the job market.
I enjoyed this class way more than I realized and I appreciated Professor Young’s patience and guidance with some of my corrections.
Good luck to you all in your future endeavors and
Have a Merry Christmas,
Natasha
Hi everyone,
First, I want to say that the biggest thing I’ve learned that has already helped me is the “less is more” motto. This simple motto has helped me in two other classes this semester that require papers.
The next thing that I’ve taken away from this class is how to write and format all different kinds of letters. I am going to hang onto the class books as references for any future classes and jobs.
I also feel tremendously more comfortable using semicolons and colons. I knew how to use commas before this course, but I was still puzzled about the rules for commas and semicolons. The books will also be a great reference for punctuation.
Finally, I’m leaving this class with a well-structured résumé, which is crucial to just about any future career.
Thanks for a great semester everyone, and I hope you all enjoy your well-deserved break.
Patrick
Hello Everyone,
I learned a lot this semester and I was able to tune up my writing skills. I learned how to write a memo which will be helpful in the future with my career. I learned how to format different letters. Overall I really enjoyed tuning up my editing and writing skills. I think it is important to refresh your memory on those kinds of things.
Happy holidays,
Tristan
Hi everyone!
This has been an enlightening semester. I think one of the most applicable things I’ve learned is how to format a business letter. I knew all of the components, but it was helpful to learn the exact margins and number of spaces to make it look perfect, whereas before I would just kind of eyeball it.
In addition to learning about professional writing, I’ve learned many tips that will help me with writing in general. I really found the information about prewriting and the writing process helpful. Now that I do more prewriting, and I try to refrain from editing while I write, I am able to better get ideas flowing and finish my writing assignments more quickly.
I hope you all have a great holiday break and the best of luck in the future!
Bethany
Hi Class,
This class has completely changed my writing style. Now, every time I write e-mails I think about the way we were instructed to write “process messages.” I know how important it is to always communicate in a professional way. I know that I will always write e-mails more efficiently because of this class.
The letters we wrote that have expanded my writing skills are as follows: responding to a job denial, complaint letter, and replying to a complaint letter. Before taking this class I had not written any of the three letters that I had mentioned above. I feel very fortunate to have had all of the writing assignments that we did. I will refer back to the assignments when it comes time in my career to compose similar letters.
I enjoyed communicating with my classmates and professor during the semester. I realize how having an online class still gives an individual the opportunity to know and understand one’s classmates and professor without ever meeting in person. During our forums we were able to see each other’s point-of-view.
All the Best,
Laurie Rutkowski
Hello class,
I am now at the end of my flashback to high school. Some of the grammar that I learned in this class was what I forgot from high school. Proper punctuation, word usage and an important brush up on nouns and verbs, etc. The books were easy reads that offered important tips on what is wrong and what is right when it comes to writing. I am saving them in case I ever have to go back and remember the right way to write a resume or a better way to use all my commas.
This class taught me the importance of a thank you letter, how good communication is key, and that writing is not perfect but if you practice enough you will get progress.
Thank you for a great semester,
Erin K.
Hello,
I’ve definitely learned a lot this semester, and hopefully, will try to apply everything in my future writing tasks. Correctly formatting business letters, messages, memos, and even emails is a lesson that I will never forget. I use these writings weekly, and some even daily, so this leeson has defintely helped my professional writing.
Also, the lesson that I love about professional writing is about being clear and concise. I definitely understand the difference between academic writing and professional writing, and will apply the rules in a correct manner. Staying clear, short, and writing what I mean, instead, of using an abstract vocabulary and talking in circles is what is key to proper professional writing. I just remember that people get irritated easily, and sometimes don’t want to read what I have to say. So, I try to get to the main point clearly so that I don’t lose the readers attention.
I really enjoyed this class and wish eveyone the best!
Happy holidays,
Darrell Reynolds
Hello everyone,
This semester has been such an insightful expirience. I have learned so many tools that will help me be a better writer in the professional world.
My favorite topics we learned about would have to be the topics in diversity, team communication, and the section on creating a resume and cover letter. I pick these topics becuase I feel that these are the things I will be using most in my professional life. Being a future teacher, diversity is extremely important to know about. I will be dealing with an emense amount of different cultures through my kids and thier families. It is important for me to make an effort to learn about those cultures so I can fully understand who they are and how they live. This in turn will make it much easier for me to teach and run my classroom in an effective manner.Team communication is also crutial to know as a teacher. As a teacher my classroom is one big team. I now that I know all of what it takes to have good team communication, I can get my lessons across effectivly and run my class as a team. The section on creating a resume has already helped me so much. Before, I had no idea how to create a professional looking resume or cover letter. I used the resume we were to create in one of our assignments recently and I belive the professional format helped me in landing the job.
My skills and thinking has changed a great deal since the begining. My writing skills are now more refined. My formatting skills are alot better and my grammar skills have improved. My thinking has changed in a way that I know realize how important professional writing really is.
Thanks for reading,
Alexa Nadeau
Hello everyone,
I have learned so many things from this class! It has improved my writing in many ways. I will take a lot form this class. A few things I have learned is that it is always important to remember “Less is More”. You never want to make something more complex, when it does ‘t need to be. Another thing I learned was to write in a simple, clear and concise style.
It is important to remember to write your paper first. Then go back and edit and revise. Do not try and do all three things at the same time. Before hand I would type and edit at the same time and then go back and revise. I feel that I have a stronger knowledge of when it comes to commas and semicolons. I was always unsure when to use a semicolon. Now I have a better understanding of them. If you are unsure of a comma it is best just to leave it out.
I have learned how to properly format business letters, memos and how to make a correct resume. I just recently for another class had to write a memo, because of this class I was able to write a correct memo. I know that this will be important as a future business person. They have a lot of writing to do. I also am so glad I have an improved resume and not just a made up one. When a job asks for my resume, I will gladly hand it over !
Have a great break and good luck in your future!
Liz
This class has been a very good experience for me. It has provided me with a better understanding of writing and how I could improve my own writing. I have always loved writing but had some problems that I have now found a way to fix. I know I do not have to choose big words to sound more professional or use fillers to make my paragraphs longer.
The resume assignment was really helpful for me. I had learned how to write one in high school, but did not remember all of the details. It was an excellent review for me. I even used the resume I submitted for job applications, and recieved job interviews because of it.
The interview assignment was my favorite from the whole semester. I really enjoyed interviewing Cheryl. The assignment allowed me to see another side to teaching and to Cheryl. It gave me a first hand look into what to expect in the next few years when I begin teaching. Cheryl is one of my biggest inspirations for teaching! I look up to her and want to model my own teaching after hers.
Once again, this class was very beneficial for me. I am glad I had to take it. It has made me a better writer and gave me a great introduction to types of writing I will do in my profession.
Hello Everyone,
What did I learn? I learned a lot this semester, but the main two things that I took away from this class is revise and editing my paper and I learned how to use punctuations better. I’m not perfect at doing these things but I improved drastically in these areas, which helps a lot when you have to write tons of papers for others classes. I still believe English is my weakest subject, but I’m improving and that’s what matters.
I also learned to write in a business format, which is going to help me a lot in the future. I’m also going to keep these books for future reference and they will come in handy next semester when I’m writing papers. Well this was a great semester and I hope everyone has a fantastic winter break
Have a good one,
Miguel
Hi y’all,
I have learned so much from this class and am really glad I enrolled in it. I learned things like how to format a memo or a buisness letter. I learned about active or passive voices and when it’s appropriate to use them. I think most importantly, I learned how to arrange my resume to make it stand out from the others. This class has shown me how to stand out from the sea of other applicants, and standing out in today’s job market is a priceless attribute.
Best of luck to everyone and happy holidays,
Tiffany
Hello Everyone,
I now feel as though I am a much better communicator than before. I now have knowledge and practice of what professional communication consisted of. I can also comprehend the reasons for writing certain ways and how to carry out those methods.
I pay attention to all documents that I currently write now. This can include anywhere from letters to emails. My target audience is more easily imaginable because of the skills that I learned from this course. I also try to take the time to leave out any excess information that isn’t necessary so that my writing can be more direct.
The practice we learned writing the cover letter was extremely useful. I feel that this was my favorite out of all the topics and just the kind of preparation I was looking for. Some of the revisions were strenuous at times, but that is exactly what I needed in order to know what mistakes I was making. This gave me an advantage in knowing what type of communication is needed in the working environment.
I would also like to thank all my teammates for their support and positive energy they gave to keep on going. After taking this course, I can write letters in such a way that will inform the reader as well as persuade them. But most of all, the skills that I built on to be suitable in the real world to effectively communicate is invaluable. It has been a wonderful semester and wish everyone good fortune in their educational future.
All the best,
Tance
Hello,
One of the things that I learned that I enjoy using is the proper usage of semicolons. I liked the punctation things that we covered this semester. I also learned about writing more concisely. I believe this will be useful in my future profession. Another valuable thing that stuck out to me was handling team conflicts. This is important because there can be conflict in any situation in life, so knowing how to handle it is helpful. I know now that avoiding a situation where there is potential conflict could be more harmful in the long run. It’s better to address the situation once everyone involved is calm.
This class also taught me that trust can’t be underestimated in a business relationship. Once someone loses trust in you or your company, they may no longer wish to do business with you. Because of this, it is important to be honest and ethical in everyday business dealings. One other thing that stood out to me was the platinum rule of treating others the way they like to be treated. This makes a lot of sense in todays global business environment. If I treat others the way they wish to be treated, I will be a successful and caring nurse.
I’ve enjoyed this semester. Have a wonderful break, everyone!

Hello Everyone,
I learned a great deal from this class this semester. It’s hard to pinpoint specifically what my “take aways” are, because everything taught in this class has been valuable to me. I have not taken an english course in almost ten years, so my grammar and punctuation skills were a little rusty. I would say this refresher has been one of my biggest “take aways” from this course. Improper grammar and/or punctuation can make you look unintelligent or ignorant, even if it is just a simple mistake.
Another valuable “take away” from this course is all of the information on proper formatting of various types of documents. I had no previous knowledge of how to format any type of document before this class. This will be increasingly important once I enter the business world someday. I valued the information so much that I am actually voluntarily keeping my class books from this course, so that I can use them as a resource if I need to in the future.
My final, and most important to me, “take away” from the class was the resume preparation. I have been needing and wanting to make a resume for myself, but never got around to it. Because of this class, I now have a well prepared resume that I can work off of and use in the near future. This class gave me a better understanding of professional writing and taught me some truly invaluable information to carry out into the work world.
Thanks for reading, and I hope you all have a very merry holiday break.
Megan
Hi everyone,
Through this class, I’ve analyzed my writing a lot and why I write like I do. It’s made me more conscious of potential errors and things I can improve. In particular, I learned a lot I didn’t know about formatting, such as the amount/purpose of white space and how to use the right punctuation after your greeting. Most were minor things but can be very essential in securing a job. I’ve also stopped picking apart everything I write since it tends to block creativity.
As I’ve learned new ideas and principles, I’ve tried to apply them in all my writings. When I put a comma in a sentence, I make sure I know why I’m putting it there. If type a formal document, I make sure that the text and white space look evenly balanced. Overall, I think as I further implement these practices, I will be able to write both effectively and correctly.
Happy holidays,
Lauren
Hello everyone,
This semester went by very fast for me. I have learned so much valuable information from this class and I will take it with me in everyday life. My writing has become much more concise. I have learned how to use a semicolon and I never thought I would use them because I was too afraid of using them improperly. The letters and memos Dona had us write were such great practice for me. I feel that those assignments I got the most out of because I will be using them in the near future. All of the assignments we have done this semester have really helped me with my writing and I really learned a lot in the class that I can use every day.
The weekly forums were great because we got to have even more advice from our teammates. I think the forums helped us with our writing and encouraged us to do better every time. Thank you to everyone on my team for their positive comments and great advice. I hope everyone has a fun and safe winter break.
All the best,
Ashley
Hello class:
Before this class I had no idea there were so many ways to format a document and rules so many different rules that are vital to writing an amazing document. After I graduate as a social worker writing will be a major component in my job. Therefore, it’s important I know how to write a professions email and letter.
I now know how to do all these things. The most useful tool I will take from this class all the comma rules. The proper usage of commas and semi-colons is something that I’ve always struggled with. I’m not where I would like to be yet; however, I’m a lot closer. Also I have a better understanding of tone and active voice in my writings. It’s so important to keep in mind of the tone in one’s writing because the reader can misinterpret things which could lead to problems.
I don’t think I’ve ever taken so much away from a class before. Every topic has relevance and will be used from here onward.
Best wishes all,
Angelida
Hello Everyone,
Taking W231 has been a very rewarding experience. I learned many things but the things that made a difference in taking this class were how to write proper e-mails and letters and lastly, how to use proper punctuation.
Taking this class has helped me learned the proper way to use commas. I used to put commas everywhere, especially where they weren’t needed. Word usage has been very helpful, as well. I tend to not use the “extra baggage” because I used to do that plenty times.
Letters and emails are very common in businesses and in our own jobs and is very important to know the correct format. Which W231 has given me a better understanding in how to do. I have seen a significant improvement in my writing and I’m glad that I was able to take many knowledgeable things from this class.
Best wishes to all and have a Happy Holiday! (:
Best Wishes,
Aribey Aguayo
Hey everyone,
I can not believe the semester is over already when it feels like it just began. I have learned so much from this class that I can use in my everyday life. For me, I own my own business so everything we learned this year I can use. I will not lie, but commas do tend to get me at times and I just forget them. All the type of letters we wrote this year are very useful for me in my business. Letters like customer complaients and how to respond to them was very helpful. Before learning those type of letters, my responses were not well written ever and some customers did not like how I responded. I then learned the correct way and customers are a lot more willing to work with me.
This was the best English class I have ever taken in college and wish all were more like it.
Best Regards,
Brad Biegel
This semester has been a huge learning experience. I have taken away a great deal of knowlaedge for this class. I have learned how to properly format bussiness letters and correctly conduct an interview. I really enjoyed giving feedback to my classmates. Reading their experiences and mistakes really helped me improve my work.
This has been the most informational and fun english class I have ever had. I never felt as if I was wasting my time doing my assignments in this course. I really think I took away many great qualities that I will use later in my career.
I found this course challenging, but I learned from all my mistakes and they all turned into a learning experience.
All the best,
Jessica
This professional writing course has provided me with an incredible amount of new knowledge. I better understand working with a team, writing APA style, and formatting business documents. The rules I have learned will be used throughout the rest of my life.
I learned working as a team can be difficult at times. The most important thing I learned is how to dissolve a situation and focus on the main purpose of any group assignment. Showing understanding and using constructive feedback goes a long way. Work is distributed equally. If there is a problem, I learned what I must do to clear the situation effectively in order to move forward in the project.
When working with the formatting style APA, I reviewed a lot of things. All the practice we received through assignments and forums has made it almost second nature. I know how handy this will come taking into consideration my future nursing courses. I understand the formatting and the citation style and how important it is to present a well organized paper. I do not want my paper being discarded simply because of formatting.
To continue with the importance of formatting, I have absorbed a great deal of knowledge on how to write and situate business documents. I have used this knowledge so much already. I use it when I e-mail students or professors, when applying for jobs, and when writing letters to others. My writing looks more professional. I am more confident when I write and I am almost proud of any document I send out.
This class has given me so much. The most important thing about this class is that all of the things I learned can be applied now in my everyday life. I have become I better writer and team member. I understand what I must do when dealing with teammates, composing papers, and contacting businesses for job offers. The impact this class has had on me is astounding. Practice makes perfect and in this class we had a lot of practice. I look forward to much more success in my future writing endeavors.
First I must say it was a pleasant surprise to click the blog link and match face with every helpful tip and a cleverly put together assignment.
This was an entirely new experience for me. I don’t speak only in terms of it being an online class, but also in terms of what it takes to work diligently and consistently. The weekly posts did not allow for very much slacking off and the assignments required that we read thoroughly. I take this with me into my other classes. I also take the fact that we were required to read our classmates posts and reply. It helped me to learn to pay attention to details. I have also grown in creativity sense the class began. I dread monotony and when we are asked to summarize I always look at my classmate’s postings.
At first they tended to sound the same. I took it as a challenge to create another way of saying what most already have. I’d defiantly recommend the online class to anyone needing it, or with a mild interest. Where there was a lack of personal physical communication, there was a surplus in the necessity of diligence.
