Team Building

Let’s discuss team process. Some teams seem to work together like clockwork, while other teams struggle. Think of a team experience you have had, positive or negative: What contributed to your team’s success? Once team dynamics become negative, can team members turn things around? If so, how? What theories apply?

    Hello everyone,

I had a great experience in a team back in highschool. We were to create a short skit. I believe that there were many reasons that contributed to the success of the team. First off, we all had a common goal. All four members in the group began by stating that we wanted to take the project seriously and we all wanted to recieve a good grade. Also, we all established a role within the group. For example, one of the teammates offered to write the play while another wanted to create the costumes. Everyone in the group communicated. Communication is another important factor. My group was lucky enough to be great friends so communication was not an issue.

I believe that once team dynamics become negative, it is still possible to turn things around. The team just needs to stop, think about what is negative in the current situation, communicate with eachother and try to fix the problem.

    Have a great day,

    Kelly Sefcik

    Hello everbody,
I have had regularly good team experiences throughout my school years. While I was in high school was on the cheerleading team. This is a huge group effort, if people were not together during our routines or at practices then things would not work out very well. Every girl has to put their time in it as much as the next person. As working as team we all wanted to look good and stick the stunts or pyramids we were doing. We all had to put in some sort of effort and perseverance. I believe we all worked well as a team was because there was an open line of communication. Everyone needs to state if they have a problem or are happy with the things we are doing. I think that a little of the team work and effort all went together was because the same girls I cheered with in high school I cheered with when we were younger. We all grew up together and felt comfortable stating how we felt and why we felt that way. Success on the team work was great when everyone agreed and decided what was best. The captains of the team always listened to everyone’s input and the team made decisions together.
I believe once the team dynamics become negative they can be turned around. There could be one person or a few who do not take upon the responsibility like the rest of the team, and things become negative. When things become negative you can sit down and talk to the people. Everyone needs to communicate what they are feeling and why they are not giving as much as everyone else. Once the problem is out the team can make changes and make the situation positive again

    Have a great week,

  3. Mollie Novak says:

    Good afternoon,

Working with a team always seems to be a challenge. I believe the key in that sentence is using the word “with” because you cannot just be part of a team. Yes, it is simply possible to be part of the team, but when you work with a team, you are contributing something. I have had both positive and negative experiences with team involvement. My most recent experience was very positive.

A group of four of us had to physically create a project, lesson plan, and present it to the class. We all worked together to brainstorm who would do what, where we would meet, and if something didn’t work out for one of us, we comprimised. I guess that was the best aspect of our group; if one of us couldn’t come, it wasn’t a big deal. We would catch that person up the next meeting and they would help out on something else. At the end of the project we were required to write a response paper about our experience. I believe that was very helpful for each individual student to identify our own shortcomings and strengths.

I think it is most definitely possible to turn around a negative team situation. I, however, believe this for just about any situation in life. One requirement is surely committment; without the majority of the team possessing this, it would be hard to have a main objective. Each individual would be just that, an individual. Being a part of a team takes devotion and although I am not a fan of teamwork, I can see why most college classes have at least one team assignment.

    Have a good day,

    Mollie Novak

  4. Debbie Kaplan says:

    Hi Class!

Teamwork is something that I deal with on a regular basis when it comes to my job. Therefore, I have had both positive and negative experiences. A recent experience that comes to mind is a negative experience that I had at a team meeting.

The agency I work for has recently hired 20 new employees. Therefore, at team meetings, there is a good mix of veteran employees such as myself, as well as new employees. We were recently broken up into smaller groups to discuss some cultural topics that apply to our jobs. We had an employee on our team that had a negative attitude from the get go and started off by staying that she thought this “was stupid” and proceeded to be negative throughout the activity. She immediately had a negative effect on our group. One thing that we were able to do was to draw upon the experiences and positive attitudes of other team members.

This situation was the first that came into my mind when reading about the characteristics of an effective team. As I read through each characteristic, I could identify the mistakes that were made by myself in this group situation. Teamwork is something that I continue to have to work on. I will be honest and say that I have a hard time being in a group where my ideas are not heard. I found this chapter to be very helpful and I think that after reading this, I will be able to work even better on being a better team member. As I’m sure that you can tell, I am not a big fan of teamwork and would rather work individually. Having said this, I am very aware that teamwork is a part of life and I will do nothing but benefit from improving my team player abilities.

    Have a good day,
    Debbie

  5. Sarah Brown says:

    Hi, class!

Teamwork is something that not everyone will experience positively in their lifetime. Thankfully, I have.

In high school, I was on the cheerleading team. It was my freshman year and we had a competition the next day. At practice the night before, our coach gave us news that one of the girls on the varsity team could not perform the next day. We were left to deicide whether to fore fit or teach someone from the JV team the entire routine in a night. This teaching and practicing of the routine was not going to be easy, so the practice would be an all night event. The coaches and varsity team chose me to learn and perform in our teammate’s place; I was honored but quite nervous! We left the gym and went to a teammate’s house to have a team sleepover and practice until we could not practice anymore. The next day we performed very well and placed in the top five teams. The fact that our team came together instead of falling apart in a time of crisis was a wonderful experience. I felt as if we could conquer the world after those two days.

Once team dynamics become negative it is hard to turn things around, but it is possible. I believe that my cheer team’s success had a lot to do with the fact that we had all been on teams before that season; we knew how to work together to solve a problem.

    Have a great day,
    Sarah Brown

  6. Lauren Sergent says:

    Hi Class!

All through my high school career, every teacher assigned some kind of team work project. I always dreaded that random pickings, because you don’t know how every one will work with each other. Sometimes, it’s not easy for friends to work on school projects together either. Friends start to mess around, or they expect each other to understand if they cancel on time to meet.

However, I have had fairly positive experiences with team work in the classroom. There was one assignment in History, where we got to pick a partner, research a specific era, write a paper, and construct a poster. My partner told me she would be out of town the two days before the paper was due. We decided to work on it the weekend before, and ended up getting an A. Because of managing our time wisely and staying on task, we were able to accomplish exactly what we wanted.

I also think back to high school summer camping trips I went on for three years. Everyone was assigned jobs throughout the day such as cooking, cleaning up, setting up camp, carrying the survival food in their packs. If one person did not do their job, we would miss a meal, or get rained on. We had one member my second year who never helped out much with the cooking team. It just became something we tried to sarcastically joke with him with, to see if he would pick up the message. The end few days he did his job to our satisfaction. If we would not of done our jobs in protest, our camp leaders would have been disappointed with us. It was extremely important to make sure we all did our parts. Team work is an essential quality.

    Thank you,
    Lauren Sergent

  7. Brianne Wischman says:

    Hello class,

I have been playing basketball since I was three years old. I have had many positive and negative experiences. The sport of basketball involved team work. There are five players on the court per each team that are trying to accomplish one goal. That one goal is to win. If you don’t involve everyone or if someone on the team is not pushing towards that goal, your team will not be successful. Basketball involes positive attitudes, passing the ball, shooting the ball, and believing in all of your teammates. Everyone has to work hard towards the one objective, and that is to win.

As a college athlete now, I recently had a negative experience with my college basketball team. As a team, everyone has to put in the work and commitment. We all have to have our mind set on our objective. Our main player, the point guard, was worried about other things. She had a boyfriend that took her away from basketball. She was only worried about her relationship and not about our team. Her objective was to just get the game over with so she could get back to her boyfriend. Her mind was not set on winning, which caused us to lose a lot of our games in the beginning of the season. As the season set forth, we pointed out her not being a good teammate and wanting to win. She ended up quitting the team, and we had a team full of players that wanted to win. Our mind was all set on our one objective again, and we were able to be succesful. We even went on a 16 game winning streak, and made out for a great season!

This shows how much commitment means to a team. It is important that everyone has a positive attitude and has one objective. Everyone has to put in their effort and thoughts to be successful. No one can win by themselves in a team sport. You have to commit your time and effort when it comes to playing a sport.

    Thank you,

    Brianne Wischman

  8. Daniel Prentoski says:

    Hello class,
I have been involved in team communication throughout my school years. I have been practicing soccer all my life. Soccer, just like any sport, requires team work. It wasn’t until High School where I fully applied the principles of team communication. At this point of my live, I had reached a different maturity level at which I fully understood how a team should work. Each member of a team must work in unity. On the soccer field, there are 11 guys on one team, but a victory is gained only as one unit. Cohesion is a fundamental element in a team. The better the cohesion, the better the chemistry in a team. Both serve to strengthen the dynamics in team communication. Each member is focused toward ‘the same objective; that is to win the game.
Any negativity that exist among team members weakens the interconnecting relationships of the team. The dynamics get disrupted, creating tensions and loss of teamwork.Members demonstrate less collaboration and participation, which in turn minimizes the effectiveness of the team. In my experience, there are numerous times, where we get frustrated with each other while on the field. Approaching the situation with a positive attitude and open mind is an effective technique in resolving the conflict. This principle is something I have learned to apply in everyday, for it promotes better outcomes in any situation where conflict arises. Once a conflict is resolved, I feel that the bonds are reattached between team member, though maybe not with the same intensity as at the beginning when the team was formed. Then again, it depends on the degree of conflict and how the situation was handled;personal versus professional manner.
Overall, my experiences with team communication have been successful. Learning different techniques and principles in this chapter will strengthen my skills and help understand the concept of teamwork.

  10. Jennifer Johnson says:

    Hi Everyone,

I have been on various teams throughout school and for work. Mostly they have been great learning experinces, but occasionally you get the one person who just does not want to cooperate with anyone or anything. I believe a strong team can overcome conflict. Disagreement can lead to new ways of thinking. You need to keep an open mind when you are on a team. Also remember not everyone will think just like you and if you listen you might learn other things that interest you, or new ways to do things.

When you are part of a group, you need to decide what role you are willing to play in that group. If it is a school project, it should be clear what each member is responsible to complete. Each member should periodically check in with eachother, or schedule a date to get the whole team together. This way you can keep track of everyone’s progress. Sometimes you may need to do more than your share to help others on your team.

Although I have had some semi-bad team experiences, I believe team activities are very important for us. We learn from eachother, and are made to think outside the box. You are exposed to different personalities and cultures. Disagreements within a team can be turned into learning experiences. In fact I think you will learn more if you get challenged sometimes.

See everyone in blogs next week,

  11. Abby Counter says:

    Hello everyone,
Teamwork is important to our lives; it exists in our workplace, as well as in play. There are several things that can contribute to a successful team. While working at AT&T, our team was very successful.

Working at AT&T, our store worked together as a team against other stores. The teams were to sell as many home products as possible. These products included the following: home phone services, home internet services, and home cable television services. The winning team would be rewarded with a catered lunch, as well as contributing team members receiving one extra day of paid vacation. There are several qualities to an effective team. Our team was effective because it had a purpose; the team had a clear understanding of what we needed to sell. We also knew what our reward was. Our team also knew the process. We did have a team leader, which was me. We all knew and worked together on our decision making strategies, as well as followed the ground rules. All of the members actively participated. We had a daily, weekly, and monthly goal. We also talked about it in the morning before we opened, and in the evening when we were closing. This helped us encourage each other; we gave feedback without criticizing. We would try to strengthen each other’s weaknesses by educating each other about product knowledge. Another characteristic that helped our success was diversity. We all had a different way of selling. We learned from and respected each other’s differences. At times, we had to switch product focus to help us hit our goals. Since I was the team leader, this decision was up to me. We all talked about it, but I made the final decisions. In the end, our team worked very well together and won the competition.

Sometimes, although well put together, a team may become negative. This can happen if conflict is not resolved. This can be turned around, as long as team goals are refocused. We should always remember that everyone should be honest, have a say and be heard, keep a positive attitude, and support other’s opinions and feelings. Working on a team is not always easy, but following guidelines can lead to having an effective team.

Teams work the best when team members are open, honest, and participatory. There are ways to avoid conflict, should it arise. My team experience shows a positive and successful experience that we all learned and prospered from.

Hope everyone enjoys the warm weekend.

    Sincerely,

    Abby

  12. Cristina Toma says:

    Hey class,

I had a horrible group experience in my senior year of high school. We had to do a PowerPoint presention on a certain religion of our choice from a list and there were 4 people in our group. Everything was just one battle after another. First, everyone argued about which religion to chose until all but one topic was left. We ended up presenting about rastafarianism, which was pretty cool. The final battle was who was going to present what and how much.

I think what made this experience negative was that most of the team members came into the project with negative feelings toward one another. No one could put there feelings aside and disregard their personal lives for the end result. Also, because most of us were too afraid or too annoyed to step up, we didn’t have a leader who stepped in and acted as a referee. I think that team members can turn around negativity because the team members control the dynamics of a group. It takes one person to show people that they are acting ridiculous and put things into perspective.

Hope you guys have a great weekend,

    Cristina Toma

  13. Brittany DeWell says:

    Hello,

I have been playing basketball for a very long time. I now play here at IU Northwest. The thing that I learned at a young age was teamwork. You can’t achieve anything in a group without working together. Communicating in a team is what can really help achieve goals.

Our basketball team this year got off to a rough start and we did not have everyone playing like we thought we would. The first few games were rough and we did not play as a team. After a few bad games we started really paying together, everyone seemed to be clicking. As we were getting our team back everything started to go right in place. We started winning, all because of teamwork. We stuck together when we were falling apart and we built ourselves back up. Not just one person did that, it was each and everyone one of us. We were pushing each other and wanted to be the best. Our team went on a huge winning steak, it was amazing.

When teams are not getting along I think the best thing to do is realize what the conflict is and try to disolve it as fast as possible. There will always be some type of conflict in most teams, but the good ones are the ones that can realize it and work past it. I think you can definitely turn negative to positive.

    Best of Luck,

    Brittany DeWell

  14. Amber Manzella says:

    Hello Class,

I’ve had many experiences with working in teams throughout my life. With being in sports, working, and school there have been many opportunities, but not all have been good ones. In order to make a good team work, you have to have great communication between all of you. People of the team need to feel comfortable enough to express their ideas, and respect one another when someone else is sharing. A strong leader has always been effective in my situations. A leader, coach, boss, all keep the group under control and focused.

When a conflict arises you can still come back and fix things, but like I said communication is key. The conflict has to be exposed in order to resolve it. Team members need to be respectful and understanding when someone has an issue. It’s not easy trying to accept everyone’s point of view. You have to be mature individuals, and I can say all experiences in college have been the best for me. I guess people really do mature after highschool.

Working in teams are very beneficial at times, and we should all take advantage of when that situation comes. The chapter does a great job giving details on how to conduct and be part of a group, and I will definitely take those tips with me.

    Thank You,

    Amber Manzella

  15. Shelbee Peterson says:

    Hello Class

Most of my team experiences come from group projects in high school. I remember one project I had to do for a history class. It was both a positive and negative experience. When the group came together we didn’t really elect a leader, but one student took up the role of dividing and delegating the jobs for the project. Together as a group we decided what we were doing for the project and what end grade we wanted. When we left class that day everyone had his or her own task to complete before next class. The negative experience of the project happened when one of the group members didn’t show up for the next class, so we were missing part of the project. It dampened the team’s overall mood to realize that someone we had trusted with an important part of the project didn’t care enough to even show up. But my team did great a pulled together. We worked together to complete the task of the one student. We ended up getting a really good grade on the project, but what I took from the project was the experience in teamwork. Even though my team hit a rough patch, we did not let it bring us down. We came together to finish the project and did an excellent job on it.

Once team dynamics become negative, it is possible to turn things around. As long as the team comes together and works together to turn it around it can happen. Giving and receiving feedback can help get things back on a positive track. If every team member is willing to work together and help the team as a whole any team can go from negative to positive.

    Enjoy the weekend.

  16. Felecia Whittler says:

    Hi class,

I had a bad experience that turned out good. We were put into groups at work about a few years ago to come up with a christmas scheme for each department. Well they had chosen me an about five others to come up with the christmas scheme.

The scheme that won will recieve a pizza party and bonus points. Our team consisted with a leader and the rest of the team. We had two weeks to complete the task. After one week there were a meeting to see how everything was going and there were two of the team members who had not even got started.

The captain of the team told them they had two more days to produce something. After those two days they had not complete anything and so our team voting them out and we had to take up the slack for what they was to complete. We now went from a team of six to a team of four and we only had two days left.

We all work over time completing the task and we pulled together like troopers. After all we had gone through we had pulled it out and won for the best christmas scheme that year. I was very proud of my team. Sometimes you have to get rid of the spoiled apples and get fresh ones.

    Have a good day.

  17. Hannah Celorio says:

    Hello Class:
I can remember distinctly one team that was not a positive experience for me. I had just graduated from high school and I got my CNA cetificate. I had a nurse on a floor that always talked about team work. The only team she wanted to be apart of, was one she could run. It was terrible. She liked to demand tasks to be done. If you had trouble or needed assistance with a patient she was busy.
I think the team could have been more successful if we all contributed. If she wanted to be a leader she needed to be supportive. Support from a leader, I believe is very crusial for team building. You need a leader to rely on and have positive communication. I think that once tasks were discussed and everyone knew their job the shift would run like a well oiled machine. I have had experience with positive team building, working under different nurses. These times were smooth and less tense. When you feel confident in asking for help with out feeling like a burden it makes the work, and patients more calm and a better experince.

    Best regards

    Hannah Celorio

  18. Paige Hickenbottom says:

    Hello Class,

Teamwork has been with me all my life. I have been involved in sports since I could dribble a ball and run. Sports have been my life for as long as I could remember and I have always been part of a team in some way or anyother. One instance that I recall fairly recently has to do with the team I am on now, IUN Lady Redhawks. In the begining of the seaon we have players getting in trouble and not being able to play. So from this happeneing we weren’t able to come together as a team and play as a whole. Everything was negative. We had teammates arguing, not listening to the coaches, and just not playing as a team. Since this was a negative problem, our games we played, we would lose, and we just couldn’t seem to find team chemisty. Once we had won one game, our team came together. We began to realize that what happened in the past happened and that we had to move one and look at the postives. Some of the positives we looked at was, we would start winning, having more fun, and learning as we go alone. We had also started bonding and looking like a true team. After we looked at the negatives and turned them to positives we decided we could do this and be successful. We did, we started winning, playing together, and most importantly we had one successful year despit all our differences. It’s all about teamwork and how you apply your skills and come together as a group.

In the end we ended very well and are excited to return with new freshman next year. We are ready to see what the new season brings us!

    Take Care,

    Paige Hickenbottom

  19. Naumce Prentoski says:

    Hello class,

I had to do many projects in school that involved working with other people in a team. The most recent team activity I had to do was last year for my English class. We had to write a report on a city where each individual team member had to pick a subject to write about, such as education, public safety, transportation, etc. We all had to help each other to write our reports and combine them into one big report and present it to the class. The team members were not shy so we introduced ourselves and exchanged numbers and emails to contact each other. Conflict arose when we had to pick the topics we were going to write on. There was a lot of disagreement between us but it helped us a lot. The disagreeing brought on better ideas and we all knew what to write about because we helped each other. The teamwork would have been perfect for the whole project but one of the members did not show up on presentation day. It cost the whole team a letter grade and it is important to understand that being on a team requires full time commitment and dedication.

    Have a nice day,

    Naumce Prentoski

  20. James Bastin says:

    Hello class,

Whenever I think about teamwork, I always think of the famous speech basketball legend Allen Iverson gave. He flipped out during a press conference because the coach benched him for not performing at practice. He said, “we talking about practice, not a game, but practice.” When it happened I agreed with him, but after spending time in Iraq I quickly found the importance of teamwork. I saw that life was not a Rambo movie and nothing could accomplished without the help of my squad.

Once team dynamics go negative I do believe that they can be turned around. It will take much more effort by the people involved, but with the right effort they can be changed. Sometimes difference of opinions can lead to teammates butting heads. Someone needs to take control as team leader and assign different tasks to the individuals strengths.

    Best of luck,

    James Bastin

  21. Christine Engle says:

    Hello everyone!

Working in teams is something we’ve all had to do as far back as we can remember. Some of the experiences are good and some aren’t so great. One of the most important teams I work in on a day to day basis is at my job. Every day we take care of patients and make sure they’re as comfortable as possible. There are usually two or three of us working at a time, but since we can’t be everywhere at once, we need to help each other out. If I’m with a patient and another one needs something, I may need my partner to help me out. There are absolutely times when we work with people who are not team players, and they don’t want to help anyone but themselves. But if we’re not working together as a team, we’re not only hurting ourselves, but the patients we’re taking care of. So at my hospital, working together is incredibly important everyday. It makes working together a lot easier and more fun when we can help each other out and develop a trusting relationship.

Once team dynamics become negative, I think it is possible to turn it around. It may be hard work, but still possible. The team may need to stop what they’re doing and actually talk about what the problem is. If someone’s not pulling their weight or contributing to the group, they just may need to be reminded what a team is. Its a an equal sharing group of people, and everyone has to do the work.

Hope everyone had a great week!

    Christine

  22. Larry Davis says:

    Hello Everyone,

Teams are a funny thing. It kinda reminds me of that Forrest Gump line ” you never know what your gonna get”. I count myself very lucky this semseter. I have been part of a great team. To think of one example would be very hard. Anytime I have a question one of my teamates are there to answer it. We all have very busy schedules so it is sometimes hard, but no matter what I have asked, there has always been an answer. On the other side I have worked with some very poor teamates. Last semester I had a class that put groups of five together. We were suppose to split all assignments. Four of us would always have our parts of the papers due, while the fifth (everytime) would have an excuse as to why they could not get theirs done. This was extremly frustrating! Someone always had to pick up the slack. So be part of a great team this year is very nice.

I believe that a team can turn around a negitave situation. But things such as establishing ground rules and being open minded go along way down the right path. One thing I always try to do when giving feedback is to remember what it is like to GET the feedback. Be polite, listen to what others have to say, and keep in mind that not everyone thinks and acts the way you do.

    Thanks,

    Larry

  23. Larry Davis says:

    James,

I could not agree with you more. Great post!

  24. Serina Garcia says:

    Hello Class,

The team experience that I have had was through school projects and sports. Although I never really had a bad experience working on a team, this chapter offered great tips on the process of an effective team. Not everyone is going to agree on an idea, but having respect, listening, and communication will help to get an effective end result. Everyone must have an understanding of the goal. Early in the process, a leader maybe appointed and every member must be appointed a role. Every team member must have a full understanding of their role in the project and must be engaged in the project.

Team members can turn things around once the teams dynamics become negative. The conflict should be approached in a positive manner. Negativity can only make people feel attacked causing them to shut down. Sometimes using “We” instead of “You” or “I” can also be helpful in resolving conflict. When a team member feels comfortable, ideas and communication flow smoothly.

I look forward to strengthening my skills, and using these principles in the future.

    Thank You,

    Serina Garcia

  25. Dona Young says:

You all did an excellent job sharing your experiences and insights about teamwork. Your examples about how to build successful teams are great, and your suggestions of how to turn team dynamics in a positive direction are especially effective.

  26. Stephanie Jensen says:

    Hi Everyone,

Being part of a team takes a lot of commitment. As soon as you join a team you have an obligation to the other people that are on that team. Whether you fulfill that obligation is up to you. To be a good teammate you also have to be able to openly communicate with the other members.
I have done many school projects involving teammates. Some experiences were better than others, but I believe I was able to learn a thing or two from being on those teams. One team experience that sticks out to me was in high school. As a group we had to make a poster, do a report, and present it to the class. We all exchanged information and agreed on a date, time, and place to meet. When that day came only two out of the three people in the group showed up. We worked on the project as planned without being able to consider the ideas from the third party. When we met in class again she didn’t like what we had come up with. We had to arrange another time to meet and redo most of the project to incorporate our third teammate. If she had taken her obligation to the team seriously and been there the first time it wouldn’t have caused so much extra work on the other members. Eventually we got the project together and did well. One person’s lack of responsibility and communication caused the team dynamics to not be so great in the beginning, but over time we worked things out and pulled together.
Once team dynamics become negative it is possible to turn things around. It might take some extra work and some understanding to put things in the past, but with open communication problems can be solved.

    Hello again class,

I have had a lot of great experience working with teams in college; however, in high school I did not have as many. In college, students take their work more seriously by making an effort and getting along with their team members. In high school, most members only did the bare minimum and tried to get by.

I had a group project go very well for my accounting class. We started our project by getting to know our team members, making rules and sanctions, and dividing up the work. If a member had a problem or could not show up for our meetings they let the other team members know. The project ended up going very smoothly and I enjoyed all of my team members.

The group project went smoothly, because my team had active and engaged team members. The team had goals, objectives, and an action plan. We each had a role we played in the group, and we gave each other helpful feedback when necessary.

In the future, I hope that every group I am in will go as smoothly as my accounting group project did.

    Talk to you soon,

    Brittany

    Hello Team,

I actually had a great experience in college working with my fellow classmates. In highschool not so much! In college we had to perform a presentation on smoking. It seems like when you are in college students tend to take their grades more seriously than when they are in high school. I think that is why we worked so well together.

We had a common goal of getting the best possible grade we could get out of the presentation. We also established roles for each of us. I remember my role was to tell eveyone the health risks of smoking. We also communicated very well. We would either meet at the library to discuss the presentation or we would email back and forth. We communicated so well we really didn’t have any issues.

Now the one group I had to work with in high school was way different. The students really didn’t care if they got an A, they just wanted to pass. So no one communicated or assigned roles. The ones that said that they would work on a certain section, would end up not working on it at all or it would be half done. So going into the presentation we were not prepared at all.

I do believe that a team can turn things around when things go negative. I think the biggest thing is communication. They need to target the problem and then use communication to solve that issue. In my opinion communication is the most important factor when it comes to team work.

    Have a great day,

    Hi everyone,

Teamwork is something I learned when I was very young. I have been on teams since I was six, it started with baseball and I have played just about every sport I was able to join. In high school my basketball team wasn’t very good, but I always had a positive mind set because I felt confident with my skills. I had some trouble getting my team ready to give it their all before a game, but I still tried doing what I could to get them pumped; critics said this game was in the bag for the other team and that we should get killed by at least 50 points. At first, my responses from my team were negative but, as I gave it my all, my positives energy started spreading. I do know that team members can turn things around. We won that game by two points. Communication is key to team success, once everyone is on the same page things will go smoother and a better outcome will be achieved.

    Hi class!

Teamwork has followed me wherever I go. I tend to try my hardest working in a team, as long as everyone pulls their weight. I have always seemed to be thrown into a group where they do not pull their weight and I end up completing the project myself. I am all about teamwork, when it works haha! Communication is the key to success. As long as everyone communicates with one another during a project, then a more successful project will be accomplished in the end. Teamwork is the way to go and I wish everyone would realize that!!

    Have a great week!

    Alex Hora
